About the project

The analysis focuses on metaphorical extensions. The visual and the auditory types of perception appear to entail different metaphors, and the visual concept of ‘blind’ develops a wider list of metaphors, as compared to the auditory concepts of ‘deaf’ and ‘dumb’. The domain in question also provides large amounts of empirical evidence for the research on non-standard semantic shifts, which cannot be identified with prototypical metaphors or metonymies.
